Psychologists on Transgenderism: Enabling the Delusion
In an attempt to understand the argument on behalf of those who celebrate transgenderism as a beautiful variation of humanity, I decided to go directly to the source. I was not at all worried that I would be donning LGBTQ…etc, etc, etc rainbow gear, camping out in front of my local Congressman’s office, advocating for taxpayer-funded gender-reassignment surgery. Yet, I wanted to know the facts behind an argument that always seemed incredibly unscientific. Here’s what I found, and my analysis of the information:
The American Psychological Association has changed the diagnosis of transgendered individuals from “gender identity disorder” to “gender dysphoria.” This move was undoubtedly aimed at removing the stigma surrounding the word “disorder,” thus changing the trajectory of the conversation. Officially, transgenderism is the condition where one “feels” he or she is the gender opposite the gender their body presents. In other words: A man, with a penis, is a woman, simply because he “feels” he is a woman… even though he is biologically not.
Delving even deeper into the science, biological sex-determination is explained as not being crudely determinant of an individual being male or female. In other words, just because someone has a penis, doesn’t mean they don’t carry feminine genes. Since every human has at least one X chromosome, certain genes are present in both males (XY) and females (XX). The Y chromosome is mostly geared toward male-specific functions, including sperm production. In some rare cases, the DAX1 gene (found in the X chromosome) will compete with the SRY gene (the sex-determining gene in the Y chromosome) for sexual development. If the DAX1 gene “wins,” this will cause the XY male to present as female. In this rare case, where there is competing sexual development, a decision can be made regarding which sexual direction to steer toward, early in a child’s development.
Yet, the argument remains the same. Even in the event certain genes are present in males, which “feminize” them, or vice-versa, there is an unchanging standard nature eludes to. That is the fact that reproductive organs—in an overwhelming majority of births (1,499 to 1)—are formed properly and unmistakably in their appearance as either male or female. A male can have varying levels of testosterone, but he still has the same reproductive organs as the most genetically-male person in history. The same is true of women, in that a bearded lady has the same reproductive organs as the most feminine woman alive.
What it ultimately comes down to—much as I suspected—is the choice doctors have made. Instead of opting to treat the condition as a mental disorder, prompting the necessity for addressing the delusional “feelings” in the person’s mind, they’ve decided to hack and mutilate bodies, unnaturally modifying natural sexual organs into fake avatars of the “real thing,” passing the behavior and identity off as normal, forcing societal acceptance and lawful recognition, and demanding that the American taxpayer “foot the bill” for their delusion-enshrinement (gender-reassignment) surgery.
This is classic Leftism, in full force. Without any shred of evidence that transgenderism is nothing more than doctors placating progressive ideologues, the scientific community is wielded as the club that will beat Americans into submission on this issue. Isn’t it interesting that this disorder has been around for ages, but once the Left begins to clamor for inclusion and equality, the scientific community magically rises to the occasion to offer up an “iron-clad” defense for clearly delusional, immoral, and socially-destructive behavior?
